The Pittsburgh Steelers under GM Omar Khan are in the trade market for a wide receiver to pair with star receiver DK Metcalf and 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Sitting at 4-1 and rolling right along early in the season, the Steelers seem to believe they’re among contenders in the AFC, and they might be trying to add to the mix on the offensive side of the football.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday, the Steelers are “looking for a receiver” before the Nov. 4 trade deadline, putting themselves firmly in the mix among buyers. So far, a handful of moves have been made around the league, but none involving a receiver yet.
That bodes well for the Steelers.
However, they will have competition for a wide receiver on the trade market.
According to SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes, the New York Giants are “big-game hunting” at receiver after losing star Malik Nabers for the season. Hughes added that names like New Orleans’ Chris Olave, Miami’s Jaylen Waddle, and Las Vegas’ Jakobi Meyers are potential targets for the Giants.
Those names would make sense for the Steelers, too.
Meyers previously requested a trade before the start of the season, but ultimately decided to play through the request after the Raiders denied it. So far this season, Meyers has 29 receptions for 329 yards for the last-place Raiders under Pete Carroll.
He is arguably the best receiver on the trade market and should have plenty of suitors, including his former team, the New England Patriots. Meyers will be a free agent after the 2025 season and could be a pricey rental. He also turns 29 in November.
Olave has been a popular name since the offseason. The Saints are in a clear rebuilding phase, and he’s had some concussion issues in the past. On the season, Olave has 39 receptions for 342 yards and a touchdown, averaging just 8.8 yards per catch. Olave is just 25 years old, but the concussion issues are a major concern for the former Ohio State standout.
Olave’s teammate, Rashid Shaheed, is another potential target on the market. With his elite speed and ability to stretch the field, he could be a great fit for the Steelers. He’s also a dynamic return man, and his price tag wouldn’t be too high.
Another name to watch is New York’s Allen Lazard, who has plenty of history with Aaron Rodgers. The Jets are a complete disaster at the moment, and Lazard didn’t travel to London for the game with the Broncos. He could be on the move soon, and with his big body and familiarity with Rodgers, he could be a nice fit for the Steelers.
There are options out there that make sense for the Black and Gold, but there will be plenty of suitors, too, even some unlikely ones like the 2-4 Giants.
If Khan is looking to address the position behind DK Metcalf and give Rodgers another experienced target to work with, he should move quickly to land a serviceable one rather than waiting until the last minute, like the last trade deadline, to land an over-the-hill Mike Williams with very little juice left.
