Ole Miss CB Trey Amos will have a mad dash to the NFL Draft. After he spoke with teams virtually the past several weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of several teams with an in-person, pre-draft visit before 2025’s selections kick off. Appearing on NFL Network’s The Insiders Friday, Amos named Pittsburgh as one team he has a trip with.
“I’m going to the Eagles, going to the Cardinals, Bills, Buccaneer, Steelers. That’s all of them,” he told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Amos’ visit is news, but not exactly shocking. Pittsburgh has shown plenty of interest in the top Runnin’ Rebel prospects this year, including sending Assistant GM Andy Weidl and unofficial scout and former Steelers’ cornerback Ike Taylor to work him out during last month’s Pro Day.
Amos is one of the better cornerbacks of the 2025 draft and could be a top 50 selection. Attending three schools – Louisiana, Alabama, and Ole Miss – he recorded 121 career tackles (eight for a loss), with four interceptions and two forced fumbles. In his lone season with Ole Miss in 2024, Amos notched career-highs in tackles (50), tackles for loss (four), and interceptions (three).
At the NFL Combine, Amos measured in at 6006, 195 pounds and ran a speedy 4.43 40-yard dash. He jumped 32.5 inches in the vert and 10’6″ in the broad. His RAS came out to a respectable though not elite 8.37, hurt most by his poor vert and short shuttle times.
In the scouting report our Tom Mead wrote, he praised Amos for his size, football IQ, and aggressiveness at the catch point. Negatively, Amos was knocked for losing separation mid-route, “marginal physicality,” and only one full year of starting experience. The report concluded:
“Amos would be a good addition to any defense. His IQ, ball skills, and ability to play in any coverage will make him very valuable. He’s an easy mover with confidence and no panic in his play. Pittsburgh needs help at the corner position both outside and inside. They may covet someone who is more physical in the run game, but Amos’ coverage ability may be more enticing.”
He earned a comp to one-time Steelers’ cornerback William Jackson III and received an early second-round grade. Mock Draft Database slots him as an early-mid second round pick.
So far, Pittsburgh has only been reported to bring in one cornerback in Florida State’s Azareye’h Thomas, who has a similar projection to Amos. Pittsburgh signed veterans Darius Slay and Brandin Echols this offseason while they hope Cory Trice Jr. can stay healthy and meet his potential. It makes cornerback less of a short-term need but a position to consider long-term. Depending on how the board breaks, it could put the team in the cornerback market come the first two days of this year’s draft.
