Steelers Sign Three Ex-AAF Players

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially announced the signing of three former AAF players: CB Kameron Kelly, LB JT Jones, and DT Winston Craig.

Kelly announced the signing earlier today on his Twitter account and we have previously written Jones was coming in for a tryout. Craig is a new name to add to the list.

At San Diego State, Kelly played corner and safety and in the AAF, even dabbled a bit at receiver in addition to his defensive back responsibilities. In Week 5 of the season, he picked off three passes in one game. He was announced by the team as a corner but we’ll wait and see if he remains there. Our draft profile have him pegged him as a much more natural safety, where he spent three years in college.

Jones recorded 21.5 career sacks for Miami (OH) before going undrafted in 2017, spending time with the Atlanta Falcons. He played for the Atlanta Legends before the AAF shut down, recording four sacks and forcing one fumble during the eight week season. Standing in at 6’1, 249 pounds, he’ll play with his hand up as an outside linebacker for the Steelers.

Listed at 6’4 290, Craig played for Richmond from 2012 to 2016. A three-year starter for the Spiders, he recorded an impressive 166 total tackles, 20.5 of those for a loss, and 13.5 sacks. He also blocked three kicks. Also undrafted, he spent 2017 and 2018 bouncing on and off the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster before being released for good in November of last year. He was a member of the AAF’s San Antonio Commanders, picking up four tackles and 2.5 sacks. He should fill out as a defensive end who can kick inside to three tech.

The Steelers have now officially signed five players formerly of the AAF. Defensive end Casey Sayles has also been reported but not yet announced by the team. That move was to be completed pending a physical.
