Rapoport: Steelers ‘In The Market’ For A Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to acquire another wide receiver ahead of the November 4 NFL trade deadline, NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday.

“The Steelers are, once again, in the market for a receiver, sources say. Their offense has thrived by featuring multiple tight ends, but the addition of a speed threat to pair with DK Metcalf would help Aaron Rodgers and the offense,” Rapoport wrote.

Rapoport listed WR Jakobi Meyers as a potential piece who could be moved, but he noted that the Raiders haven’t made any “outgoing calls” in an attempt to trade the receiver.

It’s interesting that he notes that the Steelers are looking for a speed threat to pair with Metcalf. The team has a speedy slot receiver in Calvin Austin III, but the team could look to add someone with speed who is a more traditional outside receiver. Given how the Steelers have operated on offense so far, it would make sense that the team wants someone with speed who could operate after the catch.

Austin has also missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, and the Steelers could still use an additional piece to the receiver room, especially someone who can play across from Metcalf on the outside.

WR Jaylen Waddle would make sense in that capacity, and he’s been mentioned in trade talks, although Rapoport reported that the Dolphins have “no interest” in trading the former first-round pick.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter also reported earlier this week that the Steelers are looking to acquire a receiver, and we’ll see if the team is able to find someone who fits ahead of the deadline. The Steelers have been protective of their 2026 draft capital, so any trade likely wouldn’t happen if it involved a high cost of 2026 draft picks.

One name that could make sense is impending free agent WR Rashid Shaheed. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell proposed a mock trade earlier this week that would send Shaheed and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Steelers for a 2026 fourth-round pick. Shaheed may want a new contract from a team that acquires him though, which could be a potential hold-up for the Steelers.

But it sounds as if the Steelers are serious about adding to their receiving core. At 4-2, the team has a 1.5-game lead in the AFC North, and adding another weapon could help make their offense more dangerous, which may be needed with the defense’s struggles.
