The Pittsburgh Steelers handled business on the road against the New York Jets and will play the 0-1 Seattle Seahawks in their home opener at Acrisure Stadium next Sunday. According to VSiN, Vegas odds have the Steelers favored by 3.0 points against the visiting Seahawks.
The Steelers beat the Jets, 34-32, on the road Sunday while the Seahawks lost 17-13 to the San Francisco 49ers at home. The Seahawks are used to traveling far for away games, but they will be traversing three time zones to play on Sunday.
Seattle managed to score just one touchdown in its loss with RB Zach Charbonnet carrying one in. Sam Darnold had a quiet debut for the Seahawks, completing 16-of-23 pass attempts for 150 yards. Meanwhile Aaron Rodgers had a stellar debut for the Steelers with 22 completions on 30 attempts for 244 yards and four touchdowns.
Rodgers’ 244 passing yards outgained Seattle’s entire offense, which managed only 230.
The Seahawks didn’t allow a ton of points to the 49ers in Week 1, but they did allow a healthy number of yards. They allowed 384 total yards, including 265 through the air and 119 on the ground.
Both teams will be looking to revive their rushing attacks after very little signs of life in Week 1. The Seahawks only managed 84 rushing yards, which is still somehow 59 percent better than the Steelers’ measly 53 yards on the ground.
Along with the three-point spread in favor of the Steelers, oddsmakers are predicting this to be a relatively low-scoring affair with the over/under set at 40.5. Considering the Steelers-Jets game went for 66 total points and the Seahawks-49ers game went for 30, that feels about right.
The big story of the week will be DK Metcalf playing against his former team just a handful of months after he requested a trade. Metcalf had a solid debut in Pittsburgh with four receptions for 83 yards, but he left some plays on the field with at least one or two drops. Now he will be playing against a very familiar opponent and some top-notch cornerbacks in Seattle.
Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen will give the Steelers a lot to think about after they relied heavily on their passing game in Week 1. They might not find as much success against the Seahawks in Week 2.
Home teams are traditionally spotted some points in the spread. Oddsmakers are more or less viewing the Steelers-Seahawks game as a tossup entering Week 2.
