DK Metcalf Reports For Steelers’ Mandatory Minicamp After Missing OTAs

DK Metcalf has reported to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp, per photos shared by 93.7 The Fan on X. It comes on the heels of him missing all six of the Steelers’ voluntary OTAs. But it puts him on the field with QB Aaron Rodgers after the two worked out at least once, and potentially more, earlier in the offseason.

Metcalf’s OTA absence was a bit puzzling as a player the Steelers are counting on to help lead the WR room and set the culture there for the next half decade. The Steelers just traded a second-round pick for him and then extended him four years to be with Pittsburgh for the next five seasons on one of the most lucrative WR contracts in the league.

Teammates told reporters last week that Metcalf had been present for earlier phases of the offseason program. Mason Rudolph, now the backup quarterback behind Rodgers, called him an unbelievable athlete and spoke highly of him both on and off the field. According to Rudolph, Metcalf was there about half the time for Phases 1 and 2.

According to Gerry Dulac, the Steelers “don’t care” that Metcalf skipped OTAs, indicating it was likely communicated to the team ahead of time.

With Metcalf and Rodgers in tow, the Steelers have their most notable offseason additions on the field together. Pittsburgh is looking to turn around its offense to have its best season in years. Metcalf is expected to be a long-term staple and top receiver while Rodgers figures to give him plenty of targets.

Metcalf wasn’t the only Steeler to miss some or all of the team’s OTAs. Star EDGE linebacker T.J. Watt also didn’t attend any of the team’s sessions. It appears K Chris Boswell and OG Isaac Seumalo missed some or all of that time while CB Darius Slay and RB Jaylen Warren missed at least one day, though they attended the majority of the workouts.

Minicamp runs through Thursday before the Steelers break for the summer. They’ll report to training camp at St. Vincent College on July 23.
