Steelers Release Pair Of Players From Practice Squad

It’s been a busy Tuesday for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side.

After reports surfaced that the Steelers had signed tight end Scotty Washington and linebacker Caleb Johnson to the practice squad, the Steelers needed to make two moves to remain at the 16-player practice squad limit.

Those moves came this afternoon as the Steelers announced that they have released offensive tackle Obinna Eze and tight end Noah Gindorff.

Eze was signed three weeks ago on Oct. 3. He spent the 2022 season on the practice squad of the Detroit Lions after being the team’s among final cuts just days after playing 23 snaps against the Steelers in the 2022 preseason finale at Acrisure Stadium. Eze spent the entire 2023 offseason and training camp with the Lions before being waived on Aug. 27.

Eze was previously one of three Steelers from Nigeria who represented the country on his helmet for the NFL’s Heritage Program, alongside defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi and offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor.

Gindorff was signed to the practice squad on Oct. 4, one day after Eze, as the Steelers signed tight end Rodney Williams to the 53-man roster that day, opening up a spot for the North Dakota State product.

Gindorff is an undrafted free agent who originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He was waived in mid-August and then worked out for the Steelers on Aug. 22.

Gindorff hauled in 12 touchdown passes in college while helping the Bison win three FCS championships. With Pat Freiermuth on Injured Reserve, there was hope that he would get a shot via elevation. Instead, the Steelers have cut him loose, turning to Scotty Washington, whom the Steelers signed to replace him on the practice squad.
