2023 NFL Draft

Florida OG O’Cyrus Torrence Has Pre-Draft Visit Scheduled With Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to bring in at least two Florida Gators for pre-draft visits. According to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo, Florida OG O’Cyrus Torrence has a pre-draft, “Top 30” visit scheduled with the Steelers. He joins teammate DL Gervon Dexter as two of the three known prospects with visits lined up in Pittsburgh.

Torrence is considered this draft class’s best true guard. A 2022 transfer from Louisiana to Florida, he has a whopping 46 career starts. A huge lineman at 6053, 330 pounds with long arms that reach nearly 34 inches, he’s considered a strong run blocker with great play strength.

In our pre-draft scouting report, Jonathan Heitritter notes Torrence’s strength can “move interior defenders off the ball and send smaller defenders flying as a run blocker.” Heitritter also praises Torrence’s football IQ and ability to diagnose and pick up stunts and blitzes. But he notes concerns over Torrence’s weight, a lack of foot speed, and dropping his eyes in pass protection, which causes him to fall off blocks.

Listed at 347 pounds, Torrence weighed in at this year’s Combine at 330 pounds. That was down seven pounds from his 337-pound weigh-in at the Senior Bowl a month earlier. Like Dexter, Torrence has a Steelers connection. DL Coach Karl Dunbar’s son, Karmichael, worked as a strength and conditioning coach for Louisiana and Florida, essentially taking the same college path as Torrence. If there’s someone who knows the man well, it’s Karmichael Dunbar. That’s an advantage for the Steelers.

Torrence is projected to go somewhere in the first round and is a potential candidate for the Steelers as early as #17. Given the nature of the guard position, which tends to be less valued in the draft, it’s possible he slips to #32, though it’s not currently seen as the most likely scenario.

In addition to Dexter and Torrence, the Steelers also reportedly have a pre-draft visit scheduled with Ohio State OT Dawand Jones. You can follow along our Steelers’ pre-draft visit tracker at the link here.
