2019 NFL Week 17: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Steelers Depot Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday once again to all of yinz and welcome to the final weekend of 2019. I hope all are having a great holiday season.

Man, where has the year gone? Sunday will mark the end of the 2019 NFL regular season and it sure seems like it went by in a blur. The Pittsburgh Steelers have treated us to quite the roller coaster ride this season and that ride could come to abrupt halt on Sunday should they fail to make the playoffs as the No. 6 seed in the AFC. While it’s never over until it’s over, it surely doesn’t seem like the Houston Texans will be very interested in beating the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Why couldn’t the Steelers just beaten the New York Jets last week? Why??????????

The Steelers will play a Baltimore Ravens team on Sunday that will be without a few key starters. Maybe that will level the playing field just enough to allow the Steelers to end their regular season with a win and a 9-7 record. Maybe the Texans will also somehow find a way to beat the Titans as well.

Well, if Sunday is the final game of the Steelers 2019 season you can count us transitioning the site into offseason and draft mode very quickly. By now, yinz know the offseason and draft content that we put out every year. Rest assured that we’ll make sure to keep you entertained throughout the offseason. Our very own Alex Kozora and Daniel Valente will both be attending the Senior Bowl this year, by the way.

College Bowl season continues on this weekend and Daniel remains on top of all the games. He’s once again providing pregame previews for each and every bowl game this year and those include potential draft prospects to keep your eyes on. In case you missed it, below is Daniel’s post from this morning that previews the several Friday bowl games. Please make sure to read these over the course of the next several days as he puts some time an effort into them.

As usual, I have five questions for yinz to answer starting now and up until the kickoff of the Sunday game between the Steelers and the Ravens. I look forward to reading the guesses this week. Thank you all for stopping by the site again this week.

Peace and love and Go Steelers!

1 – True or false: Steelers backup quarterback Paxton Lynch will see playing time in the Sunday regular season finale against the Ravens.

2 – Over/under 44.5 receiving yards for Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson against the Ravens?

3 – Over/under 1.5 touchdowns by the Steelers offense in Sunday’s game against the Ravens?

4 – Which number will be greater on Sunday against the Ravens: Total carries by Steelers running backs or combined total defensive tackles by linebackers Devin Bush, Vince Williams and Mark Barron?

5 – Will the Steelers make the playoffs on Sunday?

Recap of 2019 NFL Week 16 Friday Night 5 Questions

Question 1: It took just one. Would the Steelers have at least one offensive play with two Steelers running backs on the field at the same time against the Jets? This turned out to be a difference maker as 88.7% of respondents took the over on this happening over 0.5 times. But after review, the Steelers ran zero plays with two running backs on the field at the same time. This question cost nine Steelers Depot respondents to miss out on the five-point weekly bonus points.

Question 2: Duck Hodges completed 11 of 17 passes he threw versus the Jets. He played just over half the Steelers offensive snaps so likely would have gone over 17.5 completions if Mike Tomlin had not benched him after his second interception. 64.2% of Steelers Depot respondents picked up a point by taking the under.

Question 3: James Conner ran for 32 yards before bruising his thigh early in the second quarter. If Conner played a full game and added another 32 yards in the second half, he would reach the threshold and likely would have gone over 64.5 yards playing a full game. But, he didn’t so the 41.5% who took the under scored a point.

Question 4: Mike Tomlin answered this question when he pulled the Duck out and put Mason Rudolph under center. You can’t take direct snaps from the center sitting on the bench. 60.4% answered this question correctly but they were imagining Randy Fichtner sneaking in a couple wildcat plays for everyone’s amusement.

Question 5: The Steelers needed the special team unit to block a punt or create a takeaway. Sadly, it did not happen. An overwhelming 96.2% picked up a point.

Previous Weeks: There are 15- and 5-point bonuses up for grabs from week one by correctly predicting the Steelers and Browns regular season records. Both the Steelers and the Browns lost again. With one game to go, just nine percent are still in the running for the 15-point and 12% for the 5-point bonuses. Only one respondent could end up with both.

Michael Bowser was the only respondent to hit the five-point weekly bonus. Kudos! 12 respondents just missed the cut by one question.

Here are the consensus responses of Steelers Depot respondents compared to the correct answers:

Questions O/U 0.5 plays with 2 RB on field Duck O/U 17.5 Completions Conner O/U 64.5 Rush Yards Other Player Direct Snap ST Turnover or Blocked Punt?
SD Consensus OVER UNDER OVER YES FALSE
Correct Answers UNDER UNDER UNDER YES FALSE

ManRayX could have built an insurmountable lead but missed the bonus by one question. He remains in first place for the 11th week in a row.  SJT63 is within three points of the lead. Jamie Barnhart stays in third place but PittShawnC and Jeremy are nipping at his heels.  Just one more Friday to see if the front runners can hold their positions or someone else will surge ahead to win, place, or show for the money at the end of the season. Those Steelers and Browns record prognostications back on Week one may come into play.

Don’t forget to respond this weekend so that you all can maintain the pace. The postseason contest will start right after the regular season ends.
