Steelers Place Roosevelt Nix, Ryan Switzer On IR; Sign OLB Jayrone Elliott

Nix Pouncey

In addition to signing wide receiver Tevin Jones to the 53-man from the team’s practice squad, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a few other transactions ahead of their Thursday night road game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Steelers placed wide receiver Ryan Switzer and fullback Roosevelt Nix on the team’s Reserve/Injured list on Thursday and their seasons are now likely over with. Switzer injured his back this past Sunday in the teams home win over the Los Angeles Rams while Nix had missed the last game with a knee injury.

Switzer played in the Steelers first nine games this season and caught just eight passes for 27 yards. He also returned punts and kickoffs for the Steelers throughout the season. after playing in the Steelers week 1 game, Nix then proceed to miss the next five games with a knee injury. Nix made it back for two more games before succumbing to the same knee injury again.

The Steelers also signed outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott back to the 53-man roster on Thursday and it will be interesting to see if he dresses against the Browns with outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo questionable for the contest with a rib injury. Elliott has been on and off the Steelers 53-man roster a few times this season.
