Now that the Pittsburgh Steelers have their initial 53-man roster and 11-man practice squad established for 2019 I can pass along an update as to where the team currently is salary cap wise for the 2019 season.
Currently, the Steelers have 66 players under contract for the start of the 2019 season with two of those players, inside linebacker Ryan Shazier and defensive end Lavon Hooks, both being on two different Reserve lists with split salaries.
The new contract numbers for Steelers cornerback Joe Haden were also made available Saturday morning so they are also included in the salary cap table below. The only thing we are waiting on right now is a potential injury settlement charge for former Steelers cornerback Brian Allen and that amount should be known by the end of next week.
Currently, the NFLPA is still working on the Rule of 51 and that’s why their latest update has the Steelers $9,551,872 under the cap. That number, however, does not include the Steelers practice squad charges, 52nd and 53rd player base salaries, and the charges for both Shazier and Hooks. When those outstanding charges are factored in, the Steelers are $5,948,934 under the cap in real-time.
Included in all the calculations is the Steelers salary cap rollover amount from 2018 of $18,248,920. Also included below is the team’s final offseason workout bonus charge of $494,440, along with the credit adjustment of $361,471 the team received from the NFLPA in March.
To date, the Steelers have issued three known injury settlement amounts to former players cornerback Alexander Myres, cornerback Derrek Thomas and running back Ralph Webb and all three of those amounts are accounted for below. As mentioned above, another injury settlement amount for Allen is expected to hit the NFLPA update soon.
These numbers were compiled and tracked throughout the calendar year and came courtesy mainly from former NFL agent Joel Corry, Ian Whetstone and Over the Cap.
