The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to the Saint Vincent College practice fields on Tuesday for their ninth training camp session of 2019 and the afternoon ended with head coach Mike Tomlin revealing a long list of newly injured players.
According to Tomlin, running back Ralph Webb, guard Ramon Foster, running back James Conner, outside linebacker Sutton Smith, cornerback Justin Layne, tight end Trevor Wood, outside linebacker Bud Dupree and tackle Alejandro Villanueva are all now dealing with injuries as of Tuesday evening.
“A number of guys went down with minor things and I’ll probably have an update for you a little later,” Tomlin said.
Tomlin didn’t get into any specifics with any of those injured players or what each is ailing from. For whatever it’s worth, Villanueva seemed to be dealing with a right shoulder injury of some sort.
“Hopefully they won’t be out. Hopefully they’ll be in the day-to-day-like variety,” Tomlin said of the injured who are all being further evaluated.
In addition to those payers listed Tuesday by Tomlin, wide receiver Diontae Johnson (groin), fullback Roosevelt Nix (undisclosed), center Maurkice Pouncey (back), cornerback Artie Burns (groin), inside linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring), safety Sean Davis (finger), defensive end Cameron Heyward (personal) were all sidelined for the team portion of practice on Tuesday, according to Alex Kozora.
Tomlin will hold his next press conference on Wednesday prior to the start of practice to discuss the team’s first preseason game Friday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
