Jon Bostic has found a new home, signed by Washington earlier Wednesday, according to the team.
As they note, it’s a corresponding move following Reuben Foster’s severe knee injury, He reportedly suffered an ACL and other damage, possibly to his arteries, that will end his season and leave his NFL career in question.
Bostic was signed by the Steelers last winter, coming over from a one-year stint with the Indianapolis Colts. But the move never panned out and his role shrunk as the season went on. In Week 1, he played 66% of the defense’s snaps. By Week 16, that number fell to just 27%. Though his run defense was adequate, but by no means great, he was a liability in coverage and made minimal impact plays. He also discussed the transition to a different scheme, asked to blitz much more than he ever had before, playing in Tampa 2 type defenses previously with the Chicago Bears and Colts.
He ended 2018 with 14 starts, recording 73 tackles and 2.5 sacks while breaking up three passes. He failed to record a forced fumble, recovery, or interception.
Pittsburgh released him hours after the draft concluded. Even with LJ Fort jumping ship to Philadelphia, their selections of Devin Bush and Ulysees Gilbert III sealed his fate. Bostic had a workout with the Baltimore Ravens, who have seemingly entertained signing every veteran on the market, before inking his deal in D.C.
