Happy Friday to yinz and welcome to Final Four weekend.
Well, the AAF has now come and gone and it was fun while it lasted. It’s too bad that the league couldn’t even make through one full season. It will now be interesting to see how the XFL does.
Thursday certainly was a great night for Pittsburgh sports as not only did the Pittsburgh Pirates get a win, the Pittsburgh Penguins did as well and in the process they clinched a playoff spot.
We now have a little less than three weeks remaining until the 2019 NFL draft takes place and hopefully that time clicks off the calendar quickly. I have my vacation planned for the middle of May and right after the Pittsburgh Steelers wrap up their annual rookie mini camp. This year we will be traveling to Seattle and then Los Angeles and I’m actually looking forward to getting away for a week.
Have you seen the trailer for the new Joker movie, yet? I’m not a huge Joaquin Phoenix fan, but it looks like he might just be able to pull off the role as the Joker, one of my favorite DC Comics character. You can bet I will leave the house for this movie. Let me know your thoughts about this upcoming movie.
Not much else going on for me the rest of this weekend other than watching a ton of sports on the television and studying the tape of several more draft prospects.
As usual, I have five questions for yinz to answer on this Friday night and most of them are related to the Steelers or the upcoming draft. I look forward to reading yinz replies in the comments below.
Have a great and safe weekend and thank you for visiting the site this past week.
Peace and love, peace and love!
1 – Of Steelers wide receivers Eli Rogers and Ryan Switzer, which of the two has the best shot at making the 53-man roster in 2019 if only one is ultimately kept?
2 – How many of this year’s Steelers draft picks will have come from a Power 5 Conference school?
3 – What percent chance do you give the Steelers of taking a tight end in the first round this year?
4 – Will Alabama linebacker Mack Wilson be selected within the first 50 picks of the 2019 NFL Draft AND will he be the third off-the-ball linebacker selected this year?
5 – Which Final Four team will go on to win the Men’s National Championship? (Virginia, Michigan State, Auburn, Texas Tech)
Recap of 2019 Elite 8 Weekend Friday Night Questions by David O.
Question 1: These six players who were scheduled for pre-draft visits with the Steelers are listed from most to least desirable:
Darnell Savage Jr, Safety, Maryland
Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame
Charles Omenihu, DL, Texas
Ben Banogu, OLB, TCU
Andy Isabella, WR, UMass
Mike Weber, RB, Ohio State
It will be interesting to see if any end up drafted by the Steelers.
Question 2: A few folks were not interested in Jachai Polite becoming a Steeler regardless of what round he became available. The median response was that he should not be strongly considered by the Steelers until the 3rd round if they have not already selected an edge rusher by that time. What round will he ultimately be selected in?
Question 3: Almost everyone was willing to draft a cornerback in the first round if that was the best player available.
Question 4: Pretty close vote. 55% believe Teryl Austin will have the most impact in game management/challenges during games this year. Though a strong minority are hopeful that he helps improve the play of the secondary.
Question 5: Over a third of respondents did not want to trade up to acquire either Devin. There appeared to be a preference for Devin White over Devin Bush of the Steelers were to trade up to the number 10 slot. Lots of schemes including swaps of first round choices along with 2nd, 3rd and/or more draft choices to get a Devin on the roster. Wide receiver Tevin Jones is already on the Steelers roster. Isn’t that close enough to a Devin?
