In addition to offseason surgery to fix his broken fingers, Sammie Coates says he recently underwent surgery on his groin. He announced it on Twitter Monday evening.
Someone followed up with Coates and he appeared to confirm he had the surgery.
He was not known to be dealing with any sort of groin injury throughout the season. He joins Demarcus Ayers on the groin mend. Ayers had surgery on both hernias last week.
Coates underwent surgery to repair broken fingers and tendons back on January 31st. He suffered the injury in Week 5 and attempted to play out the season with them wrapped up. But he fell behind on the depth chart and struggled to catch the ball cleanly the few times he did get on the field.
These injuries do take quite some time to rehab, our Melanie Friedlander once explained why players were better off going under the knife outside the country, but Coates still has a good chance to be ready for spring work. Even if he’s held out or limited, he’ll be a full go for training camp and finally fully healthy, making the evaluation of his play much easier to figure out. Entering his third year in the league, ut’ll be a key year for Coates,
