Hines Ward To Serve As Honorary Captain Sunday

Little bit of fun news to round off the edges before tomorrow’s hold-onto-your-butt game. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced yesterday Hines Ward will serve as a captain for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ prior to kickoff against the New England Patriots.

Ward was one of the catalysts and sources of motivation on every Steelers’ team he was part of, always equipped with that famous smile of his. He spent all 14 years with the Steelers, catching exactly 1000 passes for 12083 yards and 85 touchdowns.

His playoff record was just as decorated. In 18 playoff games, Ward caught 88 passes for 1181 yards and 10 touchdowns. His best games came under the biggest spotlights, catching three touchdowns in four playoff games during the Steelers’ 2005 Super Bowl run. He was named MVP of Super Bowl 40 after hauling in five passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, the latter thrown by Antwaan Randle El.

He caught another seven passes for 78 yards and a score in his second Super Bowl, a 31-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 2010-2011 campaign.

Ward has been cheering on the Steelers throughout the week. He was part of a pep rally held at Stage AE last night in Pittsburgh.

Getting ready!!! PepRally in Steelers country! Let's do this!!!!
