The Pittsburgh Steelers will open their 2016 regular season Monday night on the road against the Washington Redskins and on Tuesday head coach Mike Tomlin updated the health of the team during his Tuesday press conference.
Tomlin said Tuesday that Roosevelt Nix (back), Daniel McCullers (knee), Shamarko Thomas (groin), Cody Wallace (knee), Markus Wheaton (shoulder), Cameron Heyward (ankle), Marcus Gilbert (elbow), and Javon Hargrave (knee) can all be characterized as day-to-day to start the week.
“These guys are starting the process of working themselves toward availability this week,” said Tomlin.” We got an extra day, so we’ll utilize that extra day. Hopefully that extra day is beneficial to us and to them individually in terms of their preparation and their overall availability and readiness. But I feel optimistic about all of those guys and really don’t have any other information about their availability other than day-to-day.”
As far as Hargrave goes, Tomlin addressed the knee injury that he reportedly suffered during the team’s Monday practice.
“He sustained a minor injury at practice yesterday,” said Tomlin. “He wasn’t able to finish. It’s been evaluated, that evaluation told us that it’s day-to-day, so I’ll update you guys on his availability, or potential availability, on Thursday as well.”
