The Pittsburgh Steelers have now finished their annual training camp conditioning test after arriving at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe on Thursday. Additionally, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin just held his first training camp press conference of 2016 and announced the players who will start of on the team’s Active/PUP list.
Those players are: wide receiver Shakim Phillips (sports hernia) and tight end Lardarius Green (ankle) while defensive tackle Devaunte Sigler (conditioning) was placed on the Non-Football Injury List.
Players on the Active/PUP list are not allowed to practice with the rest of the team until healthy and removed from it. They are limited to working on the side with the team’s medical staff during their rehab. Once removed from the Active/PUP list, players cannot be placed on it again. Additionally, players who do not start off training camp on the Active/PUP list are no longer eligible to be placed on it.
For players who are unable to be removed from the Active/PUP list before the start of the regular season, they will be eligible for the in-season Reserve/PUP list. A player who is placed on the Reserve/PUP list at the start of the regular season must sit out the first six weeks.
You will notice that running back Le’Veon Bell was not placed on Active/PUP and that’s a great sign for him. Tomlin did, however, acknowledged that he and a few other players will be managed throughout training camp. More on that in an upcoming post.
