The Pittsburgh Steelers waived undrafted rookies Tyriq McCord and Jay Rome Tuesday morning and now we know that both transactions were related to injuries.
According to the the league’s official transaction sheet, both players were waived injured. Their specific injuries, however, are still unknown as of right now.
Being as both McCord and Rome were waived injured, both will likely revert to the Steelers Reserve/Injured list after clearing the waiver process. At some point both might ultimately be waived again with injury settlements should their projected rehab times be lengthy.
Being as both players likely signed split contracts as undrafted free agents, their base salaries will likely be lowered moving forward as long as they remain on the team’s Reserve/Injured list. This would also mean that the salary cap charges of both players will be lowered.
