Pittsburgh Steelers Select Javon Hargrave In Third Round

The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected South Carolina State nose tackle Javon Hargrave with the 89th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Weighing in at 6’1, 309 pounds, Hargrave was a force in the MEAC, dominating the conference like few ever have. In 2015, he finished with 22 TFL, 13.5 sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles. Ten of those sacks came over his final five games. His numbers in 2014 were even better, ending with 16 sacks, including a whopping six against Bethune-Cookman. That tied an FCS record.

After dominating the Shrine Game and Senior Bowl, Hargrave had an excellent Combine. He ran a 4.93 40, a 34.5 inch vertical, and 9’1″ in the broad.

He is just the third FCS player taken under the Mike Tomlin era and the highest pick taken. He is the 5th under Kevin Colbert and the second highest selection. Only Ricardo Colclough was taken higher.

More to add to this pick throughout the night.
