Little bit of draft news on this wild first day of free agency.
Joey Porter and at least one other Pittsburgh Steelers’ scout are attending Colorado State’s Pro Day, according to The Football Educator’s Brandon Thorn, who is in attendance.
Though the Rams do not have any strong outside linebacker candidates, Porter has obvious ties to the school, playing and coaching there. The top prospect today is wide receiver Rashard Higgins, who according to Thorn, jumped 32.5 inches in the very and 10’0″ in the broad. If you missed it, here is the scouting report we just did on him.
The other interesting prospect is cornerback DeAndre Elliott. A tall, lean corner (6’0/7 188), he had a great combine last week. A respectable 40 time of 4.55, a wicked 41 inch vertical and 10’5″ broad, the third best short shuttle, and the 10th best three cone time of all the cornerbacks. He’s a 33 game starter who intercepted seven career passes, including two in 2015. That would ostensibly be the top prospect their watching, in addition to any players from smaller schools who linked up with Colorado State to workout.
UPDATE: Thorn tells me Elliott is not working out today due to a hamstring injury.
