Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey talked a lot during the offseason about how he and the rest of the starting offensive linemen stayed close to the team practice facility when not practicing in an effort to not only gel together more off the field, but keep conditioned as well. It appears as though that course of action has paid off for him.
According to Dale Lolley of the Washington Observer on Twitter, Pouncey told the media on Monday that he now weighs 300 pounds after weighing 285 in previous years. Of the little practice footage and pictures I have seen of him over the course of the last few weeks, he looks like he is carrying that weight well.
Pouncey battled an ankle injury early on his career, but after having surgery on it following the 2011 season, that appears to be behind him now. The extra weight, which we assume is mostly muscle mass, shouldn\’t slow him down and it figures to help him with some of the bigger bodied defensive tackles he will face in 2013.
Outside of the “Free Hernandez” pictures a few weeks ago, Pouncey has said and done all of the right things during the offseason and he figures to be on tap for yet another great season in 2013.
