The Pittsburgh Steelers had two open spots on their practice squad after promoting guard John Malecki to the 53 man roster on Monday and losing wide receiver Toney Clemons to the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Wednesday they filled those two spots with offensive linemen as Bob Labriola reports they have signed tackle Joe Long and guard Justin Cheadle to the practice squad.
Long is the younger brother of Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jake Long. Long was a four-year starter at Wayne State at left tackle making a school record 49 consecutive starts and originally signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. He measured in at his Pro Day at 6056 and weighed 308.
Cheadle is a 6030 guard out of Cal who has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and most recently the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted.
