Wallace Watch is now in full bloom after Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times reported Tuesday morning that a source told him that Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace is now back in Pittsburgh.
Although Wallace has not been seen yet at Steelers facility, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette now reports that several sources have told him that Wallace will report and sign his one-year restricted tender after the team returns from their third preseason game against the Buffalo Bills this upcoming weekend.
Should that indeed be the “soon” date we have all been waiting for it would match what cornerback Ike Taylor said last week. Taylor indicated that he did not think that Wallace, who had been working out with trainer Tom Shaw down in Florida, would report this week, but instead the week after.
As I have previously stated, should Wallace indeed make it in for the final week of preseason action, there would still be plenty of time to hammer out a long-term deal prior to the week one game against the Denver Broncos.
The Steelers have a long standing history of not negotiating contracts once the regular season begins, but two weeks prior to playing in Denver would be plenty of time to get the deal done.
