Season 2, Episode 119 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with my co-host David Todd stranded in New York today I fly solo once again for the first half of the podcast.
I open with a preview of the interview that I had Thursday evening with former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed, who is currently a free agent. My 25 plus minute talk with him is included in the second part of this podcast and begins around the 20:00 minute mark.
Before I get to the interview with Reed I recap the little bit of news that has taken place since our Tuesday podcast. Being as we are right at the beginning of the slow time prior to training camp there is not a whole lot to discuss, but I touch on the recent passing of former Steelers lineman Ralph Wenzel to start with. Also in the first half I discuss the Steelers continuing plans to possibly have a regular season game in Ireland next season. While most of the fanbase is afraid that it will cost the black and gold a home game, I am pretty sure that it won\’t. I also talk briefly about the Top 100 Players list that the NFL Network is about to wrap up. I close the first half of the show by touching on a few other things that include what to expect on the site this coming month and I recap my training camp roster battle post on the cornerback position.
In part two is my interview with Reed, who is very open and honest about where he is right now in his career, as he looks to catch on with a team for the 2012 season. Reed talks openly about his final season in Pittsburgh and explains his comments that he made following the loss to the New England Patriots in 2010. Reed explains the comments that were interpreted by many as shots at the fans and the organization. He takes time to explain his playing surface remarks and whether or not he views Heinz Field as the toughest stadium in the NFL to kick in. Reed talks all about his training regiment these days that includes over two hours of work every morning with his personal trainer and him kicking every Sunday at what would normally be game-time. Reed says he would love to kick in Pittsburgh again, but knows that decision is not up to him. In the end, Reed explains that he is just looking for another chance to kick again in 2012. Whatever you thought about Reed prior to today, this interview might just change your opinion of him. We thank Jeff for coming on the show and hope he gets another shot somewhere this year.
David should be back with me for the Tuesday podcast and I hope everyone has a great weekend.
