Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey is having surgery today presumably on his injured left ankle and as a result will likely have to bypass the Pro Bowl.
Pouncey started 14 games for Steelers this past season, but he re-injured the same left ankle against the Cleveland Browns in week 13 that forced him to sit out the Super Bowl last February. The aggravation prevented him from playing in week 14 and week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams, but he returned to play in the final regular season game against the Browns.
Leading up to the AFC Wild Card game against the Denver Broncos, Pouncey again aggravated the ankle, and it forced him to ultimately miss the game. He was voted the AFC starter at center for the Pro Bowl this year and also earned first-team All-Pro honors for his play in 2011.
