NFL.com reporter Jason La Canfora is reporting on Twitter that the Steelers are seriously considering moving right guard Trai Essex to left tackle and current left tackle Max Starks to the right tackle spot in place of the injured Willie Colon. Colon had surgery this morning on his right Achilles and is lost for the season as most know. The Steelers had brought in free agent tackle Flozell Adams on Tuesday for a look, but could be asking as much as 4 million a year, which is way out of line for what the Steelers would want to pay him. I mentioned several options myself at right tackle, but La Canfora is reporting reliable sources that this could indeed be the way the Steelers open up camp in almost one month from now. This would not be my first choice. We traded Tweets with La Canfora and asked about the status of rookie tackle Chris Scott as well. He reports that Scott will be back ready before the 3 month time frame that Gerry Dulac reported in the Post-Gazette and that the Steelers have no intentions of placing Scott on PUP right now. Regardless, when Colon is placed on injured reserve, the Steelers will likely fill that roster spot with a lineman. Whether or not it is a veteran free agent or not is yet to be seen.
