Ex-Scout Warns Fans: Don’t Overreact To Steelers’ Struggling Offense

Steelers Offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has struggled throughout training camp so far. While they worked to improve that group this offseason, that’s going to come with some growing pains. However, some fans might be worried that they could be in for another year of watching a putrid offense. Former NFL scout and current analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently offered some advice that may ease Steelers fans’ concerns.

“Preseason PSA- Just about every defense is ahead of every offense at this point in training camp,” Jeremiah wrote on Twitter on Monday.

That message has been very true for the Steelers. Their offense has had some good days, but it has lost much more than it has won. The Steelers’ most recent practice was particularly ugly. The offense got dominated in the first Seven Shots period, losing 6-1. That wasn’t the only time that the Steelers’ offense got kicked around Sunday either.

However, it’s also important to note how talented the Steelers’ defense is. That group was great for most of last year, and it only got better this offseason. The Steelers traded for Jalen Ramsey, who’s been having a great camp. They also signed Darius Slay, who hasn’t looked too bad, either.

Along with players like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, and Patrick Queen, that gives the Steelers a formidable defense. Their offense is still trying to get on the same page, but that isn’t easy against that group.

Mike Tomlin also echoed Jeremiah’s thoughts recently. He didn’t show any concern or panic at his offense’s sluggishness. Perhaps that could change if it continues to struggle, but for now, he’s practicing patience.

That’s a fair approach. Making mistakes is the point of training camp. No team is perfect, and that’s especially true at this time of year. Teams are trying to integrate new players and new concepts. That comes with some rough days. The point is to not repeat those issues when the real bullets are flying.

Players know that, too. Several Steelers have explained that they understand that their offense hasn’t been stellar so far. However, they’ve also expressed a belief that they’re getting better every day.

With their first preseason game coming up, the Steelers’ offense could be in for a rough day. The key will be if the group shows growth after that. If the offense looks rough up until the regular season, then maybe it will be time to panic. However, until then, it’s better to follow Jeremiah’s lead and not overreact.
