Our original story is below.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing veteran CB Arthur Maulet, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who tweeted the news moments ago.
Maulet served as a run-downs slot corner who could blitz and stop the run, though he was considered a liability in coverage. Last season, Maulet appeared in all 17 games, starting six, and finishing the season with 59 tackles, a pair of sacks, and an interception.
Maulet spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the team.
Pittsburgh’s slot situation continues to look up in the air after losing CB Cam Sutton to the Detroit Lions in the offseason. The Steelers did sign veteran CB Chandon Sullivan during draft weekend while the team has floated the idea of moving Patrick Peterson around this season. Tre Norwood and perhaps Damontae Kazee remain as other options in the slot but it’s one of the biggest holes on the team.
With Maulet’s release, Pittsburgh’s roster sits at 86 players heading into rookie minicamp.
