Turns out, the Pittsburgh Steelers weren’t done with their pre-draft visits after all. According to the PPG’s Ray Fittipaldo, the team is hosting a pair of big names Monday in Georgia OT Broderick Jones and Clemson DT Bryan Bresee.
Our pre-draft tracker had the maximum list of 30 names based on confirmed visits and reported ones but evidently, some of those scheduled ones must not have taken place. Scheduled visits never confirmed include Ohio State OT Dawand Jones, Florida DL Gervon Dexter, Houston QB Clayton Tune, Mississippi State CB Emmanuel Forbes, and Georgia CB Kelee Ringo.
Jones and Bresee are viewed as surefire or potential first-round picks in this year’s draft. Jones is a lock for the first round and will likely be a Top 20 pick. Though he lacks elite starting experience, he started 15 games on the blindside last season to help the Bulldog repeat as national champions. With length and athleticism, he’s viewed as the second-best true tackle in this year’s class, only behind Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr.
Pittsburgh could look to add a top-end tackle to cap off its o-line additions this offseason. If they like Jones enough, a trade up to get him also can’t be ruled out. GM Omar Khan might be aggressive in his first draft in that role.
Bresee is a polarizing player with great traits and potential but little production. Injury and illness limited him to just 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 10 games last season. But he’s a plus-athlete who had a solid pre-draft process and Pittsburgh will like his upside and mental toughness. Though a possibility at #17, it’s also possible he falls and is on the board at #32. The Steelers have done their homework on virtually all the top defensive linemen in this class and figure to select at least one before Day Two of the draft wraps up.
