The status of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant for the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is still up in the air after he fractured his left index finger last week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday that Bryant will be the “ultimate decision-maker” on whether he has season-ending surgery on his finger or tries to play with it heavily padded, which could result in long term damage if not fixed immediately.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said on Wednesday that Bryant is scheduled to see more doctors later in the day and that he will most likely not be at practice as a result.
“Dez is going to see another guy today, later in the day,” Garrett told the media. “(I) don\’t anticipate him practicing (Wednesday), and we\’ll see where he is once we get that information. He\’s going to give it every chance to play this week and this season. We just need to get more medical information.”
The Cowboys are still alive as far as making the playoffs and could still win their division as well. A loss to the Steelers on Sunday would have them way on the outside looking in as far as both go.
Bryant obviously would have to wrap up the finger pretty could should he decide to tough it out, but he still would be a major matchup problem for the Steelers who will once again be without the services of cornerback Ike Taylor and quite possible his replacement Cortez Allen, who is not expected to practice early on this week due to a hip flexor injury suffered last week.
