Reports: Calais Campbell Signing One-Year Deal With Falcons

A few weeks after being a surprise release by the Baltimore Ravens, veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell is heading south for his next NFL stop.

According to multiple reports Wednesday morning, Campbell is signing a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, who continue to add new pieces defensively under head coach Arthur Smith.

Campbell spent the last three seasons with the Ravens after a lengthy career with the Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season Campbell recorded 36 tackles, 14 quarterback hits, 5.5 sacks and four tackles for a loss. The 15th-year veteran signed a two-year deal last April after briefly contemplating retirement.

Campbell won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, made six Pro Bowls, and also served as a captain in Arizona and Jacksonville.

In his 15 professional seasons, which has included time with the Cardinals, Jaguars and the Ravens, Campbell has recorded 99 sacks, 809 combined tackles, 165 tackles for loss and 16 forced fumbles. Campbell will turn 37 on Sept. 1.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, Campbell chose the Falcons over the New York Jets and Detroit Lions due to the opportunity to make an impact on and off the field. The addition of Campbell continues a strong offseason for the Falcons, who added safety Jessie Bates, defensive tackle David Onyemata, linebacker Kaden Elliss, and cornerback Mike Hughes.
