Steelers Place Roosevelt Nix, Ryan Switzer On Designated To Return List

Ed Note: NFL rules stipulate players must wait at least eight weeks before being activated, meaning Nix and Switzer won’t be eligible this weekend against Baltimore.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have designated FB Roosevelt Nix and WR Ryan Switzer to return from injured reserve. Both are expected to practice on Thursday.

From Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley.

“Both players are now eligible to practice with the team on Thursday, and expected to do so, as the Steelers prepare for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.”

Nix has missed most of the season with a knee injury. In the few games he did play, he was far from 100% healthy, and was placed on IR on November 14th. Switzer suffered a back injury and was placed on IR the same day.

Before going down, Switzer had caught eight passes for 27 yards while also being the team’s main punt returner. He has played 81 offensive snaps for the Steelers. Nix logged just 35 offensive snaps but another 42 on special teams. Nix’s return could boost a running game that’s struggled the last two weeks and has been inconsistent all season long. Finding a role for Switzer in any potential return to the field is more difficult.

Pittsburgh will still need to make a pair of roster moves if they want to activate both to the 53 man roster if the team makes it into the playoffs.
