The initial snap counts from the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday home loss against the Baltimore Ravens are now in and they are listed below along with a few observations from each position group. We will verify the counts during our weekly play charting.
Offensive linemen: Nothing unusual with the Steelers offensive line in Week 5 outside of tackle Zach Banner (4) being used sparingly as an extra lineman tight end. B.J. Finney also played one snap on a Wildcat play in the third quarter.
Wide receivers: Veteran Donte Moncrief (0) was back inactive again on Sunday and Ryan Switzer (2) only played two snaps on offense. JuJu Smith-Schuster (55), James Washington (33) and rookie Diontae Johnson (55) all predictably played the greatest amount of snaps. Johnny Holton (20) saw an increase in snaps but that might be related to Washington leaving the game with an injured shoulder.
Running backs: James Conner (48) had the lion’s share of snaps and as usual, that’s not shocking. Jaylen Samuels (15) saw a decrease in offensive playing time in Week 5 while rookie Benny Snell Jr. (0) only played on special teams against the Ravens.
Tight ends: Vance McDonald (37) was back from his shoulder injury against the Ravens and newcomer Nick Vannett (30) played 50% of all offensive snaps in his second game with the Steelers. Rookie Zach Gentry (0) was back on the inactive list on Sunday as the Steelers chose to dress only two tight ends against the Ravens.
Quarterbacks: Mason Rudolph (33) was relieved by Devlin Hodges (26) due to injury.
Defensive linemen: Cameron Heyward (69) and Stephon Tuitt (68) led the team as you would expect them to. Tyson Alualu (15) played sparingly and also played one snap on offense at fullback.
Inside linebackers: Vince Williams (52) was back from his hamstring injury on Sunday. Rookie first-round pick Devin Bush (74) and Mark Barron (32) both started with the latter leaving the game late in the first half with an injured hamstring. Tyler Matakevich (7) saw playing time in the second half.
Outside linebackers: Bud Dupree (78) and T.J. Watt (71) both started and played most of the game once again with Anthony Chickillo (0) inactive with a foot injury again. Olasunkanmi Adeniyi (10) did see the field a little bit again this week and even Jayrone Elliott (3) got on the field some Sunday against the Ravens.
Cornerbacks: Joe Haden (80) and Steven Nelson (80) played all 80 snaps on Sunday. Mike Hilton (33) played a ton in the slot and Cameron Sutton (11) also saw sub package playing time against the Ravens. Both Hilton and Sutton seemingly played well in the secondary against the Ravens.
Safeties: Safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick (80) played every defensive snap against the Ravens while Terrell Edmunds (69) was off the field for 11 snaps. Backup safety Kameron Kelly (10) was on the field a lot more against the Ravens in the dime package. Jordan Dangerfield (1) played one snap on defense against Baltimore.
