Steelers Place Stephon Tuitt On IR, Sign LT Walton

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially placed DE Stephon Tuitt on IR, signing DE LT Walton in his place, the team announced moments ago.

‘Tuitt suffered a season-ending torn pectoral in Sunday night’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers. It ends what was turning into a career year for Tuitt, arguably the best player on a defense filled with talent.

Walton is a former 6th round pick of the Steelers. He appeared in 36 games, making four starts, but the team opted against re-signing him this past offseason. He was in Buffalo during training camp this summer but failed to make the team and had been out of the NFL for the first six weeks. While he offers little as a pass rusher, he is solid against the run and could wind up playing more of a nose tackle role more than defensive end. He’ll compete with rookie Isaiah Buggs for a gameday hat.

The Steelers also announced two moves on their practice squad. They signed RB Tony Brooks-James and OL Christian DiLauro. At 5’9, 190, Brooks-James had 18 career rushing touchdowns for Oregon from 2015-2018. DiLauro started 38 games for Illinois, playing guard and tackle, during his college career and spent training camp with the Cleveland Browns.

They will take the place of Trey Edmunds and Paxton Lynch, elevated for last week’s game, though Lynch may lose his spot once Mason Rudolph is cleared out of the bye week.
