The New England Patriots will open their 2019 season Sunday night at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers and on Wednesday they released their first official injury report of Week 1 and it has three players listed on it.
Listed as being limited during the Patriots Wednesday were tight end Matt LaCosse (ankle), safety Obi Melifonwu (ankle) and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas (hamstring).
After catching two passes for 37 yards in the Patriots preseason opener, LaCosse sat out the final three exhibition contest with an injured ankle. With the Patriots currently only having two tight ends on their active 53-man roster, odds are good that LaCosse will play Sunday night against the Steelers
As for Thomas, he played in just one preseason game, the team’s finale, and caught seven passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in that contest. Thomas has has a lot of past success in games that he’s played in against the Steelers. In four games as a member of the Denver Broncos, two of which were playoff games, Thomas caught 18 passes for 415 yards and four touchdowns.
Last season, Thomas, who is now 31, caught 59 passes for 677 yards and five touchdowns as a member of the Broncos and Houston Texans.
