Texas LB Gary Johnson Headlines Steelers Four Thursday Pre Draft Visitors

The Pittsburgh Steelers are entertaining four more pre-draft visitors on Thursday and once again all four play on the defensive side of the football.

According to Bob Labriola of steelers.com, the Steelers are hosting Texas linebacker Gary Johnson, Akron linebacker Ulysees Gilbert, West Virginia safety Dravon Askew-Henry and Central Michigan cornerback Sean Bunting for pre-draft visits on Thursday.

Johnson, who measured in at this year’s scouting combine at 5117, 226-pounds with 31 1/4-inch arms and 10 1/4-inch hands, he ran his 40-yard-dash in Indianapolis in 4.43-seconds, did 16 reps on the bench and had a vertical jump of 33.5-inches to go along with a 10’1″ broad jump. His short shuttle time at the combine was 4.57-seconds and his 3-cone time was 7.15-seconds.

In the 26 games that Johnson played in at Texas the last two seasons he registered 150 total tackles with 22.5 of them resulting in lost yardage. 8.5 of those were sacks and he also had 3 forced fumbles and 2 pass breakups. Johnson was suspended for the 2018 season finale against Kansas due to a violation of team rules, however. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert attended the Texas pro day last week.

Gilbert had a great pro day as he ran his 40-yard-dash in 4.46-seconds in addition to having a vertical jump of 39.5-inches and a broad jump of 10’6″. He also reportedly did 20 reps on the bench and his 3-cone time was 6.94-seconds. He played in this year’s East-West Shrine game and that means the Steelers had already met with him informally a few months ago.

In the 51 total games that he played at Akron, Gilbert registered 358 total tackles of which 28.5 resulted in lost yardage with 9.5 of those being sacks. He also intercepted 3 passes during his college career, forced 2 fumbles, and had 8 total pass breakups. He wasn’t, however, invited to this year’s scouting combine.

As for Bunting, who measured in at this year’s combine at 6003, 195-pounds with 31 3/4-inch arms and 9 5/8-inch hands, he ran his 40-yard-dash in 4.42-seconds in addition to doing 14 reps on the bench. Bunting also posted a vertical jump of 41.5-inches in Indianapolis to go along with a 10’6″ broad jump.

In 38 games played in at Central Michigan, Bunting intercepted 9 passes and had 15 total pass breakups. He also totaled 104 total tackles.

Askew-Henry totaled 6 interceptions during his college career and 215 total tackles. he reportedly measures in at 5106, 202-pounds. Askew-Henry won’t count against the Steelers 30 pre-draft visitors that are allowed since he went to West Virginia and also played at Aliquippa High School. He is also the cousin of former NFL cornerback Darrelle Revis.
