The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Northern Illinois outside linebacker Sutton Smith in the sixth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It was the 175th pick overall in this year’s draft.
At this years scouting combine, Smith measured in at 6003, 233-pounds with 30 3/4-inch arms and 9-inch hands. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69-seconds and did 25 reps on the bench. His vertical jump was 31.5-inches and his broad jump was 9’10”. He ran the short shuttle in 4.32-seconds and the 3-cone in 6.75-seconds.
Smith registered 139 total tackles and 30 sacks during his college career.
Smith won the MAC’s Vern Smith Leadership Award (MVP) and repeated as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.
He broke his own NIU record for sacks in a season with two in the MAC Championship game to give him 15 on the year.
