The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to unveil their rookie’s jersey numbers but it appears, for now at least, Marcus Allen will sport #27.
Thanks to twitter user Andrew, he sent me this screenshot from Sean Davis’ Instagram story, showing Allen’s locker with 27 listed next to his name.
27 was previously worn by J.J. Wilcox and Senquez Golson. Here’s hoping Allen has a much more successful Steelers’ career than either of them.
It’s also worth noting that jersey numbers can change at a moments notice, whether that is sometime during spring work or after training camp. Mike Hilton switched from 40 to 31 before Week One last year and we’ve already seen a flurry of number changes this season. Joe Haden, Sean Davis, and Stevan Ridley are just several players who have switched numbers. So don’t rush out to buy any rookie’s jersey just yet.
Allen was the team’s 5th round pick this season after a strong college career at Penn State, starting 46 games. Though not expected to see any work on defense, he should be able to carve out a role on special teams. He wore #2 during his time at Penn State.
With their rookie minicamp set to take place this weekend, we should get a full list of jersey numbers soon.
