The Pittsburgh Steelers signed their 13 UDFAs after the seventh round ended, putting their roster at the 90 man maximum. That group, along with the seven draft picks and certain future contract players, will head to rookie minicamp in a couple of weeks. But they won’t be alone. The team will bring in a slew of tryout players, not under contract but with the opportunity to earn one of those roster spots with a good showing.
Last year, a pair of players got signed out of rookie minicamp. Pitt linebacker Matt Galambos and Fordham tight end Phazahn Odom. Galambos remains a Steeler. Two years ago, it was Marcus Tucker who earned his contract and there’s a chance he makes the 53 man roster this year.
Point is, don’t ignore these names. We’re going to keep a running tracker of the names who have been invited to tryout for the next couple of days until the official minicamp roster is announced. When it is, we’ll cover these names more in-depth. If you see a name, hit us up on Twitter or let us know in the comments below.
