Projected Contracts And Salary Cap Charges For Steelers 2018 Draft Class

Steelers Salary Cap

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected seven players during the 2018 NFL Draft and now that they we know the names and spot each were picked out, we can pass along their rookie contract projections to you.

Thanks to 2011 CBA theres a scale of contracts and a total Rookie Compensation Pool, every NFL team knows the total contractual value of each draft pick ahead of their actual selection. OverTheCap.com has been projecting these individual rookie draft pick contracts for several years and below are the ones for the Steelers seven selections of 2018. While these contract numbers might ultimately differ ever so slightly from the actual ones each player signs, they should be very close. We’ll know the exact numbers as soon as each contract is signed and filed with the NFLPA and pass them along to you.

As you can see in the table below, all seven selections will earn the league minimum, $480,000, as a base salary in the first year of their rookie contract. For the five players drafted after the second round, their base salaries for all four years of their rookie contract will match the league minimum. The team’s top two selections, Terrell Edmunds and James Washington, will earn higher than minimum base salaries in years two through four.

Each contract will not count against the team’s salary cap until it is actually signed. Until each contract is signed, a base salary of $480,000 is assigned to each player. If all seven contracts were to count against the team’s salary cap Sunday morning, the total available space used after displacement in the top 51 salaries would be just under $2 million. As of Saturday morning, the Steelers have $3,343,880 in available salary cap space following them trading wide receiver Martavis Bryant on Thursday.

We’ll have the signing bonus of the 13 undrafted free agents that the Steelers came to terms with probably by the end of the coming week and we’ll pass along those full contracts to you.
