The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills 27-20 Sunday on the road and in the snow and a few things stick out when you look at the initial snap counts from the game.
Offensively for the Steelers, tight ends Jesse James and Ladarius Green played 50 and 28 snaps respectively. Throw in tackle Chris Hubbard playing 30 snaps as an extra blocker and fullback Roosevelt Nix playing 25 snaps and you can see that the Steelers used a lot of heavy personnel groupings during Sunday’s game. Oh, David Johnson also played 22 snaps against the Bills.
Wide receiver Sammie Coates only played 1 offensive snaps against the Bills and failed to receive a target. He did, however, play quite a bit on special teams once again. He and Nix had the most snaps Sunday on special teams. Nix logged two tackles while Coates logged one penalty.
Defensively for the Steelers, Anthony Chickillo, Arthur Moats and Jarvis Jones logged a total of one defensive snap between the three of them. That snap went to Chickillo as the Steelers decided to roll with James Harrison and Bud Dupree all game. The rotation is no more, for now.
With Javon Hargrave sidelined on Sunday, Daniel McCullers and L.T. Walton each logged 18 defensive snaps. Ricardo Mathews, on the other hand, played 34 of 52 snaps.
Safety Robert Golden played 17 snaps against the Bills as he filled in for Mike Mitchell during the middle of the game after he left the contest with a knee injury.
