The Pittsburgh Steelers will close out their 2016 regular season at home Sunday against the Cleveland Browns and while several starters will be held out of that game as a precaution, it appears a few more might miss the game due to injuries.
According to the Steelers daily injury report, linebacker Anthony Chickillo (ankle), safety Robert Golden (ankle), defensive end Ricardo Mathews (ankle), safety Mike Mitchell (not injury related), linebacker Ryan Shazier (illness) and defensive end Stephon Tuitt (knee) all sat out the team’s Thursday practice.
At this point, you can obviously count on Tuitt being held out Sunday against the Browns and that might ultimately be the case with a few others listed above. Tuitt injured his knee in the week 15 win over the Cincinnati Bengals and has been sidelined since.
Limited once again on Thursday were tight end Xavier Grimble (ribs), wide receiver Sammie Coates (hamstring) and tight end Ladarius Green (concussion). With that, it’s looking like both Coates and Green are in jeopardy of missing the game against the Browns as the two missed the Steelers Sunday night game against the Baltimore Ravens with their injuries.
The good news when it comes to Green is that he is indeed getting some sort of practice in so barring any setbacks, he should be ready for the playoffs.
After sitting out Wednesday’s practice, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (not injury related) and tackle Marcus Gilbert (not injury related) both apparently practiced on Thursday. Roethlisberger, however, will be held out Sunday against the Browns along with wide receiver Antonio Brown, running back Le’Veon Bell and center Maurkice Pouncey.
