The Pittsburgh Steelers Friday injury report has now been released ahead of Sunday’s home game against the New York Giants and it shows that only two players have been ruled out for that contest.
After failing to practice again on Friday, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and running back DeAngelo Williams (knee) were both officially ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
After sitting out Thursday’s practice with an illness, guard David DeCastro (illness) practiced fully on Friday and thus has now been removed from the Steelers injury report.
Also removed from the injury report on Friday were tight end Xavier Grimble (quadricep) and safety Shamarko Thomas (groin) after both players were able to practice fully for a third straight day.
With Thomas set to return on Sunday, he will be expected to resume his large role on special teams. As for Grimble, who has missed the last few games because of his previous injury, it will be interesting to see if he is able to avoid the team’s inactive list now that fellow tight end Ladarius Green has returned to the lineup.
The Steelers could decide to promote wide receiver Demarcus Ayers from the practice squad on Saturday and if that ultimately happens, it will be interesting to see what the corresponding move is. Will it be Heyward-Bey going to injured-reserve, or could we see cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz or running back Daryl Richardson waived? We’ll find out Saturday by 4:00 p.m. EST.
