Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Steven Johnson suffered a broken ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys and as expected, his season is now over.
The Steelers announced Tuesday morning that Johnson has been placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list as a result of his injury. To fill his spot on the 53-man roster, linebacker L.J. Fort was re-signed.

Fort had been waived on Saturday in order to make room for tight end Ladarius Green, who was activated from the team’s Reserve/PUP list.
Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers during the offseason. The reserve linebacker led the Steelers in special teams tackles prior to being injured. The Kansas product spent his first three years in the league with the Denver Broncos after being signed as an undrafted free agent. In 2015, he played for the Tennessee Titans.
Fort will likely fill Johnson’s spot on special teams moving forward.
