The Pittsburgh Steelers had another impressive win Sunday at Heinz Field and this time it was against the New York Jets. The win now has the Steelers as the leaders in the AFC North division entering Week 6 with a road game now awaiting them.
The initial snap counts from the Week 5 home game are now in and as usual, here is a recap of the notable numbers from the most recent contest.
Offensively for the Steelers, in just his second game of the season, running back Le’Veon Bell played all but three offensive snaps. His backup, veteran DeAngelo Williams, played 12 snaps in total so that means both he and Bell were on the field together for 9 plays.
Even though wide receiver Sammie Coates was the story on Sunday, Markus Wheaton still played five more snaps than he did.
Defensively for the Steelers, you can see that the team mostly played base and nickel personnel groupings once again on Sunday as that is evidence by the amount of snaps that inside linebackers Lawrence Timmons and Vince Williams both played.
After being promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz played 6 defensive snaps Sunday against the Jets and all were presumably part of nickel or dime personnel groupings. Rookie cornerback Artie Burns also played just 13 total snaps against the Jets.
When defensive end Cameron Heyward left the game injured after just 20 defensive snaps, rookie defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was the real beneficiary as he finished with 32 snaps played. Fellow defensive end Ricardo Mathews played 17 defensive snaps against the Jets.
More stats from the Steelers Week 5 win over the Jets will be forthcoming in future posts after we finish charting the game.
