AFC North Week 6 Recap: Steelers Remain In First After Division Goes 0-4

AFC NORTH TEAMS

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a very ugly road loss Sunday to the Miami Dolphins as they were blown out 30-15. To make matters worse, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a left knee injury late in the first half of the game and while he was able to return and play the entire second half, he will need an MRI to determine whether or not he’ll miss next week’s home against the New England Patriots.

While the Steelers lost convincingly on Sunday, at least they weren’t the only AFC North team to do so as the other three teams in their division also lost in the early Week 6 games.

The Baltimore Ravens lost their third game of the season on Sunday 27-23 to the New York Giants.

After taking a 23-20 lead with 2:04 left in the fourth quarter, the Ravens let the Giants answer that score with a four play, 75 touchdown drive that culminated with a 66-yard pass from New York quarterback Eli Manning to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with 1:24 remaining. Manning, by the way, completed 32 of 46 pass attempts in the game for 403 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

As for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, he threw for 307 yards in Sunday’s road loss to the Giants. He completed 26 of his 48 pass attempts in the game and did not throw a touchdown or an interception.

The Bengals lost 35-17 to the Patriots on Sunday. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns in his second game back from his four-game suspension and New England tight end Rob Gronkowski caught 7 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals

In a losing effort, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts against the Patriots for 254 yards and a touchdown which went to wide receiver Brandon LaFell. Dalton was also sacked twice during the game by the Patriots defense.

The Browns made the AFC 0-4 Sunday by dropping their sixth-straight game of the season to the Tennessee Titans on the road. In the loss, Browns quarterback Cody Kessler completed 26 of his 41 pass attempts against the Titans for 336 yards and two touchdowns. While was not intercepted on Sunday, Kessler was sacked six times during the game and the Browns offense went 3-of-14 on 3rd downs.

The Titans offense rushed for 137 yards against the Browns and Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 17 of his 24 pass attempts in the game for 284 yards with 3 touchdowns and only one interception.

The Steelers will now enter Week 7 even more battered and bruised than they already were entering Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. As previously noted. they will play the Patriots at home next Sunday and after that game they will have their, long-awaited and well-overdue bye.

In other Week 7 AFC North action, the 2-4 Bengals will host the 0-6 Browns. The Ravens will go on the road again in Week 7 and play the New York Jets, who will play their Week 6 game Monday night on the road against the Arizona Cardinals.
