The Pittsburgh Steelers have now released their list of seven players who will be inactive for Monday night’s 2016 regular season opener against the Washington Redskins and it doesn’t include the name of rookie linebacker Tyler Matakevich.
Matakevich, who was drafted this year in the seventh-round out of Temple, was chosen to dress over veteran inside linebacker Steven Johnson.
With backup center/guard Cody Wallace sitting out Monday night with a knee injury, the Steelers chose to dress both B.J. Finney and Chris Hubbard and thus eight total offensive linemen.
Additionally, newly acquired cornerback Justin Gilbert will also dress against the Redskins.
Ruled out for Monday night’s game on Saturday because of injuries were Wallace (knee), cornerback Senquez Golson (foot), wide receiver Markus Wheaton (shoulder) and fullback Roosevelt Nix (back).
Quarterback Zach Mettenberger and defensive end L.T. Walton join Johnson as healthy scratches for the Monday night game.
