I have a few more transactions related to the Pittsburgh Steelers to pass along to you on this Friday and both include players who were on the team’s Reserve/Injured list.
On Thursday, the Steelers waived tight end Mandel Dixon from their Reserve/Injured list. Dixon, an undrafted free agent this year out of Tulsa, was originally signed by the team on July 21st. An injury suffered during training camp resulted in Dixon being waived injured and he reverted to the team’s Reserve/Injured list after clearing waivers.
On Friday, the Steelers also waived quarterback Dustin Vaughan from their Reserve/Injured list with him receiving an injury settlement as part of the transaction.
Vaughan, who originally signed a futures contract with the Steelers this past January, was waived injured last week with a fractured thumb that he suffered during the team’s second preseason game. In the two preseason games that Vaughan appeared in this year, he completed 13 of his 24 pass attempts for 117 yards. He was sacked a total of 7 times in those two games and did not throw a touchdown pass or an interception.
With these two transactions now completed, the Steelers currently have seven players on their Reserve/Injured list and they are Bruce Gradkowski, Jerald Hawkins, Kevin Anderson, Cole Manhart, Shakim Phillips, Canaan Severin, and Valerian Ume-Ezeoke. Cornerback Senquez Golson is expected to be added to this list on either Sunday or Monday.
