Snap To Throw Times For Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger In Loss To Eagles

Are you one of several who think Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger held on to the football a little bit longer than he normally does in the Week 3 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles? If so, I believe you are right as Roethlisberger’s snap to throw times from Sunday’s game show as much.

Including the four times he was sacked by the Eagles defense. Roethlisberger averaged 2.91 seconds from snap to throw, or snap to sack. However, it’s worth pointing out that three of the four times Roethlisberger was sacked on Sunday happened 3.46 seconds or longer after the football was snapped. If you remove those four sack times Roethlisberger still averaged 2.88 seconds from snap to throw. Additionally, his 7.14 second scramble on the opening drive certainly didn’t help his average, but as we all know by now, he’s good for one or two of those kinds of plays a game.

I have Roethlisberger dropping back a total of 27 times for 2.7 seconds or longer after the football was snapped and of the 23 passes that he attempted on those 27 drop backs, only 9 were completed, of which 5 came in the first half, of which 3 came on the first drive of the game.

Roethlisberger also attempted 14 deep passes (more than 15 yards) in the loss to the Eagles and completed just 5 of those throws. He was, however, 3 of 6 on deep pass attempts in the first half.

This loss to the Eagles really included a giant snowball as the bigger the Philadelphia lead got, the more predictable the Steelers offense got. The Eagles defense played not to give up the deep pass and their four-man rush was able to get after Roethlisberger without having to worry about the run.
